DREADMOOR Crafting and Blueprints Explained
How DREADMOOR crafting works: the workbench, blueprint research, scraps of knowledge, material sources and the recipes worth making first.
Quick answer: Crafting happens at the workbench. Press N to open the blueprint book, select a recipe, gather the listed materials and craft it. New recipes need scraps of knowledge to research. Prioritise the Wind-Up Tin, braided line and reinforced rod before cosmetic or convenience items.
The workbench, blueprint book and material names below are from demo v0.3.39. Early Access may add tiers and change research costs.

DREADMOOR's crafting is not a giant tech tree. It is a small set of tools that make fishing and sailing safer. The free demo includes the full workbench loop. That is a strength: every recipe has a job, and the materials come from activities you are already doing.
"Resources gathered across the Submerged Lands can be crafted into specialized bait, reinforced harpoons, rare medicines, and survival tools." — DREADMOOR on Steam
How the workbench works
- Approach the workbench and interact.
- Press N to open the blueprint book.
- Browse by category or filter to blueprints you can afford.
- Select a recipe to see its materials and required knowledge.
- Press V to pin a recipe so its materials show while you explore.
- Craft when every requirement is met.
The workbench is also where some upgrades are installed. The rigging bench at Betsy & Sons handles rod and line work; the dry dock handles boat modules. Dream Dock describes the full crafting loop on the official site. If a recipe is craftable but not usable, check whether it needs installing at a different station.
Blueprints and scraps of knowledge
Blueprints are not all available from the start. Some recipes are known; others need scraps of knowledge to research. Those scraps come from exploration, traders and specific quests.
The blueprint book shows locked recipes greyed out, with the missing requirement listed. Pinning a locked recipe is useful: it tells you what to look for without cluttering the main HUD.
Do not spend every scrap on the first locked recipe you see. Research the tools that unblock materials first, then the combat and convenience items.
Press V on the recipe you are working toward. The material list stays visible, so you know whether the next wreck is worth diving into.
Material sources
| Material | Where to get it |
|---|---|
| Metal plate | Scavenging wrecks, shacks and debris |
| Rope | Starting shack, wreckage |
| Coral fibre | Angler's Island; coral regrows in 2–3 days |
| Adhesive slime | Blue-slime beetles on the rocks behind the trading post |
| Iron barrel | Scavenging, trading post |
| Fish meat | Grinding any fish |
| Chromatic scales | Grinding Softgazer |
| Harpooner carcass | Predatory fishing at skull spots |
Coral is a renewable resource, but it is not instant. If a recipe needs coral fibre, harvest Angler's Island, do something else for a couple of in-game days, then return. The locations page covers the island route.
Adhesive slime is the one material people miss. The beetles are on the rocks behind the trading post, not in the water. Look for the blue glow at night.
Recipes worth making first
Wind-Up Tin
Metal plate + fish meat. The first crafted lure and the key to Softgazer. Without it, you cannot get chromatic scales, and without scales you cannot make the Rainbow Fin. This is the top priority.
Braided line
A rod upgrade that improves line strength and tension behaviour. The demo's search suggestions show people asking how to equip it, which suggests it is easy to miss. Craft it at the workbench, install it on the rod, then select the rod in the tackle menu.
Reinforced rod
A stronger rod for bigger fish. It makes long fights less punishing and is a sensible second rod upgrade after the braided line.
Baitcasting Reel
A reel upgrade visible in the workbench inventory. It improves the reel side of the tension minigame. Craft it once you are consistently losing mid-tier fish.
Serrated axe edge
A weapon upgrade installed at Betsy's rigging bench. It makes land combat less tedious. Not a priority if you avoid ghouls, but useful for the demo's forced encounters.
Crude lockpick / Lockpick Master
Locked containers and doors appear in the demo. The lockpick line is optional content, not a main-path requirement. Make it if you are exploring thoroughly; skip it if you are rushing the story.
Tools, medicine and harpoons
The store page promises specialised bait, reinforced harpoons, rare medicines and survival tools. The demo shows the bait and tool side more clearly than the medicine side; the bait and lures page covers the recipes in detail.
What to expect in Early Access:
- Harpoons for predator encounters and underwater threats.
- Medicine for the Sea Blight and combat injuries.
- Survival tools for exploration, salvage and night travel.
Do not buy a blueprint for a tool you cannot use yet. The workbench will tell you the requirement; read it before spending scraps.
Inventory and sorting
The inventory has an autosort button and generous stack sizes. Use it before crafting so you can see what you actually have. Materials are shared across recipes; a tidy inventory is the difference between a five-second check and a five-minute hunt.
The workbench shows required resources as icons with counts. If an icon is red, you are short. If it is grey, you have not researched the recipe.
Common crafting mistakes
Crafting lures you cannot use. A predatory bait without a predator spot is wasted material.
Ignoring the rigging bench. Rod and line upgrades are installed there, not at the main workbench.
Spending all scraps on lockpicks. Optional exploration tools should wait until the fishing loop is stable.
Forgetting to pin. The material HUD only shows pinned recipes.
Hoarding without crafting. Materials do nothing in the hold. If you have the recipe and the bench, make the tool.
